The Games have begun.

Today the Island Games experience proper began with a trip around the half course for some, a test run on the island bus system for others and, of course, the delights and spectacle of the opening ceremony 'Carnival'. We can report that the half marathon is 13.1miles long and not a little hilly, the buses are as buses everywhere and the opening ceremony did not disappoint. It was a grand display in colour and sound of the island's history and culture, involving literally hundreds of participants in addition to the competitors. The parade to Ryde seafront was well supported by locals who applauded all the way.

We also tested out the athletics track. Just to be sure it worked.
